Exodec Small Business Employee  benefit Funeral Plan has been developed for smaller businesses with less than 200 employees that struggle to find underwriting directly. There is a special tax benefit for employers that takes this fringe benefit out for their employees. This is a benefit paid for by the employer for their employees till they retire at age 65.

Employee benefit Product Rules:

  • Funeral cover for the employees of a company
  • There must be an employer / employee relationship and policies are paid by the employer
  • Standard Funeral Cover for a Single Member or Family Plan
  • Maximum entry age 64 years
  • Cover ceases at 65 years, retirement, retrenchment or resignation
  • Conversion option is available for employees going on retirement or that has resigned to take out that will cover them for their whole life

  • Personal Service
  • Claims paid out within 48 hours after receiving all required documents
  • No Medical examination or medical questionnaire required
  • No Waiting Period on death due to natural causes on condition the first premium is paid
  • No waiting period on accidental death on condition the first premium has been paid
  • Suicide excluded for 12 months

  • 5 children included in package
  • Cover of child aged between:
  • 14–22 years same as principal member
  • 6–13 years 50% of principal member
  • Stillborn – 5 years 25% of principal member
  • Stillborn cover included on family plan only
  • Cover for children that are students up and till 25 years – proof must be provided annually from a registered tertiary institution

The following must be submitted at application stage for a spouse:


  • Marriage Certificate
  • Lobola Letter with Chief letter confirming traditional marriage
  • If Life partners proof of this in the form of e.g. Utility bill with details of both main member and spouse or Medical aid membership or Birth Certificates of Children or Bond application or Rental Agreement
  • If this cannot be provided the person will have to take out a policy for themselves
  • No ex-spouses or ex-life partners can be covered as that relationship has been terminated and there is no insurable interest according to law


  • Cover included for citizens from neighbouring countries (SADC) legally residing and working in South Africa; they must have valid passport and work permit
  • The Spouse and children legally residing with the main member in South Africa can also be covered
  • No illegal persons can be covered
  • No Foreigners living outside the border of South Africa can be covered

  • A copy of the ID and proof of address must be supplied for the main member
  • The spouse and childrens’ ID numbers and if possible a copy/photo thereof must be submitted
  • No ex-spouse or ex-life partners can be covered as there is no insurable interest according to law anymore
